Why is a shelter website changing dog breed names?

this dog called Sami, was listed as Belgian Shepherd x

She now has foster carer who have renamed her Maya, and the website now says she a Purebred Dutch Shepherd.

How can a Mutt, become a Purebred?

here is her updated link

http://www.aaps.org.au/dogs/dogs_page_tw鈥?/a>|||Hi - nice looking dog! I see that Maya was surrendered by the owners, who may very well have also presented the pedigree papers. If this is the case you should ask to see a copy of the pedigree paper. If this can%26#039;t be produced, then there is no way of telling if Maya is truly a purebred; regardless, as she comes from a shelter she%26#039;ll be desexed so the whole purebred issue would be a moot, wouldn%26#039;t it?

More importand is how Maya scored on her temperament test - this is what will tell you what sort of dog you%26#039;d actually be getting!

Good luck. and don%26#039;t hold the whole %26quot;is she a mutt, or is she a purebred%26quot; thing against the shelter - they%26#039;re doing a great job!|||maybe a breeder saw her? we get it in BT rescue - somesays -= they are a JRT cross - but when we see them it%26#039;s obvious there are purebred Border...|||She is not a Belgian Shepherd, she looks like a dutch shepherd but her ears are a little too small... maybe they got the breed wrong to begin with and have just corrected their mistake. She%26#039;s cute though!|||Shelters make breed mistakes all the time. I once fostered a Toy Manchester Terrier that the shelter thought was a Miniature Pinscher. As soon as I got the dog I knew that wasn%26#039;t right, so I did some research. He was just adopted by a former breeder who is absolutely certain he is a Manchester.

My own avatar, Pepper, was listed on a website as a pit mix. Now tell me, does she even remotely look like a pit mix?

As long as they aren%26#039;t charging more for her because they think she is purebred, it doesn%26#039;t really matter, as long as she is a nice dog.
