Yea, helping kids pay for college while helping the community at the same time sounds awful. It was a high school requirement in the state of Maryland to perform community service (for free) for a specific allotted amount of hours or one would not be able to graduate. This was standard in the Maryland school system. It was not a bad thing. I was still able to work and make money whilst helping out my community. I volunteered at a zoo one summer and actually really enjoyed myself. I was also able to have a p/t job at a little restaurant. It kept me busy, and I had a greater appreciation for the money in my pocket that I earned. I love how there idea of %26quot;community service%26quot; is something that the community refuses to do, or pay for based off need, but what a politician dictates should be done with tax payer money.
Anyone with a job already does community service. The community has spoken and the services it needs are provided by the American work force and driven by economic need.
Of course Obama thinks his benevolent vision of how the world works means all these people providing this community service are greedy. The more actual service you provide, the more greedy you are.
Sounds like he is confused.As someone who is a student who this would affect. I think it's great. Very good idea. Especially because I can earn money for college he said. Not to mention people should help their community. I don't see anything wrong with it.
