It would depend on what type of website you are working on. If you have your own webserver, then you can have your way of setting and updating of the website according to the instruction to setup this webserver/web page. But if you use a host webserver such as blogspot, myspace etc, one will have to follow and use their defaulted setting and configuration.
Most website host will require one to create a password for opening an account. This account will allow one to access to one's web page.
For example, in blogspot, after entering the web page with the password, one would have to select the editing page and there is an edit word button for one to select to edit and update the webpage. There are also many other features to make the webpage interesting and one will have to take some time
